White Water Rafting 2023

Last Saturday on July 29th, we went white water rafting. We did grade 4 rafting because last year we did grades two and three. Grade four has rougher rapids and we needed a guide in our raft. We went rafting with the Lone Oak gang. The rafting place was in Pennsylvania and in a town called Ohiopyle.

All the rapids that we went on were named different things. There was Cucumber, Piddly, Dimple, Bottle of Wine, Even Piddlier, Rivers End, and many more. Cucumber was named after cucumber falls, Piddly and Even Pidlier were small rapids, and Dimple was named after a rock that makes the rapid hard to go through.

Dimple and Rivers End were the hardest because they were both grade 4 rapids. In Dimple, if you went the wrong way, you would flip the raft. In Rivers End, if you went too close to a rock you would get trapped against it and would eventually flip. Our guide (Garret) was very good, so we were okay.

Our guide also made us do something called the million dollar wave. He had everyone sit at the back of the boat so the tip pointed out of the water. Then we hit a tall rock so that it sent us spinning around it. That was called the million dollar wave. It was so fun.

The only person who fell out of the boat was Anita Auntie because she had leaned back. We hit a rock and she got bounced out of the raft. She was okay and floating and she came back on later.

Another thing we did was surfing. We made the boat go over a rapid, and then paddled so that it didn’t move forward, and instead stayed on the wave. We almost couldn’t get off it and we almost flipped, but thankfully we didn’t. The second time we did it was on a smaller rapid and this time, we got off it easily. We were the only group to surf and do the million dollar wave.

The rafting experience was very fun and I am ready to do grade 5 next year!
