Navaratri Dolls is a festival where you put up dolls on steps and invite people over to see them. At the same time Durga puja is also celebrated to worship the goddess Durga.
But this was the year 2020 and we could not cross 6 feet so people couldn’t come inside our home to see the dolls. That is, of course, unless you set up the dolls in our garage which we did so that people could see it from outside the garage wearing masks and they could worship from there.
October 17th was the first day of Navaratri and Amma and Baba had to spend half the day building the steps for the dolls. The dolls that I set up on one step were all my Harry Potter legos.
We called guests across four days to come and worship and see our dolls setup. We all wore masks 🎠😷 because of the Corona virus and dressed up in Indian clothes.
We prepared goody bags for kids and ladies. In the kids good bags we put two dum dums which are a type of lollipop and gave Shiva and Birbal books. Ladies got scented candles.
We also saw Durga Puja Arati at temples online because it was safer than being there in person.
The pujas that we did were Saraswati puja where we worshiped books, and next day we also worshiped instruments like my guitar and harmonica.
In conclusion the Durga Puja and Navaratri celebrations were different from our original from previous years but different doesn’t mean not fun. I liked the new puja in the garage but I would have preferred if friends could have come home because we could have played then.
