Total Solar Eclipse

Amma, Baba, Thatha, and I went to see the total solar eclipse. We went with Sohom also and we went to Rochester New York. My parents had to plan the trip in August 2023 because lots of people wanted to go there. We were originally planning to see the eclipse in Rochester but Dan uncle who is a weather scientist found out that it would be cloudy there so we drove off on the morning of the eclipse on April 8, 2024. From Rochester we went to Erie Pennsylvania but there were still clouds. After that, we went to a small town in Ohio called Conneaut. We saw the eclipse there. It was very cool. We saw the sun turn into a crescent shape as it was covered by the moon. It then became totality and we saw a ring of light in the sky (see the pictures). We were able to take our glasses off and look directly at it then. We also saw some solar flares coming off the sun. Totality lasted around 4 minutes and it was very cool. We then drove back home. In total, we traveled 600 miles just that day. It was very cool and I hope to see it again someday.

Total Eclipse Weekend Trip - First Top was at Finger Lakes Region by Canandaigua Lake

Then we reached Rochester, NY - The place to see Total Solar Eclipse!

Visiting Rochester Science Museum day before eclipse was considered a good idea!

We don't like to pose much but we do it when our Amma's ask

Where there is talk about space there is always Star Wars!

Rochester was counting down to total eclipse viewing

We all booked this trip to Rochester in August 2023!

Spending a sunny Sunday by Lake Ontario on the eve of the Eclipse

When not in the museum or in town, we were gaming using the hotel computer in the lobby

April 8, 2024 Ready with my Eclipse Tee Shirt!

We were all ready with our Eclipse Tee Shirts from Rochester!

We even had Eclipse themed lunch on April 8th!!

But we actually saw the Eclipse from Conneaut, Ohio!! Not in NY, not in PA! We drove to Ohio!

We drove out of Rochester by Monday morning 8AM to escape the cloud and rain and look for a clear sky for Totality view!

We are glad to drove west to Ohio and saw this amazing total eclipse!

The diamond ring view everyone talked about in the science museum! Baba took these from his DSLR Camera

Look how the light changed as the moon covered the sun

This totality lasted for 3.5 minutes - darkness all around

And then the sun came out to set at the end of day when we drove back home after covering 612 miles/1500 kilometers in one day driving from Rochester, NY to Erie, PA to Conneaut, Ohio and finally to Bethesda, MD reaching home at 1:30AM Tuesday morning !
I went to school on Tuesday 2 hours late but it was all worth it!
